School bus drivers carry the most precious cargo: our children. Drivers and assistants make sure that students get to school and back home safely every day. They are the first school workers to greet students in the morning and the last to wave goodbye to them in the afternoon.
According to the National Safety Council, school buses are about 40 times safer than the family car. School bus drivers undergo extensive training, not only in safe commercial vehicle driving but also in bus operations and maintenance, student management and first aid.Getting children to and from school safely and on schedule makes bus drivers, assistants, mechanics, dispatchers and other transportation personnel an integral part of our schools and our communities.
