The Assessment Department is committed to ensuring that all Washington Elementary School District students are assessed with appropriate measurement instruments that produce meaningful information regarding students' progress in meeting District curricula and Arizona Academic Standards. This goal is accomplished by ensuring that assessments are fair, the scores produced are reliable, and the interpretation and use of the scores are valid. Scores are reported to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the Governing Board, and the public at large, in a manner that is clear and understandable. Assessment information reflects the program and service needs of our diverse student population, and is utilized in facilitating instructional decision making, as instruction and assessment are integrated. Additionally, the Assessment Department is responsible for assisting schools and other departments by providing available data to meet their specific requirements.
Currently the Assessment Department produces assessments for mathematics, reading, art, writing, social studies/language arts and technology. The department supports the administration, scoring and reporting of DIBELS Next assessments.
Assessments are aligned to the Arizona Academic Standards and are revised and updated as those standards are modified. Data analysis of existing assessments is ongoing. The Assessment Department provides an essential link between curriculum and student achievement.
