    Update May 29

    May 29, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Thank you for your patience as Washington Elementary School District has worked through some of the most challenging times in recent memory. We know that you are going through these times as well. We are here to support each other.

With the close of schools in March, we had to quickly consider how to safely provide food, packets, Chromebooks, social/emotional services, academic services and communication to our families. We surveyed you recently and we heard that we communicated effectively during the closure, but technical difficulties slowed the learning. We learned that you prefer email for communication. We appreciate all the feedback.

We are preparing for next school year. As we have said in past communications, we will be taking our lead from the medical experts, the Governor and the Superintendent of Public Instruction. On Monday, the Superintendent of Public Instruction will be publishing a Roadmap for Reopening Schools to provide guidance for school districts.

WESD has subcommittees that are working on the reopening process. The subcommittees are focused on the safety of our students and staff and are divided into Social/Emotional, Academic, Operations (Schools), Communication, Meals, Technology, Transportation and Personnel. These teams are looking at a variety of options for the fall and will use the Roadmap from the Arizona Department of Education for guidance. In mid June, we will be sending out surveys to our families and staff regarding these options to gain feedback regarding reopening in the fall.

During the summer, we will continue to provide weekly updates related to our summer feeding program, our virtual summer school, our before- and after-school care, new student registration, the progress of the subcommittees and other topics.

Please continue to check your voicemail and email for updates during the summer. If you have any questions, please email wesdcommserv@wesdschools.org or call 602-347-2600. We look forward to keeping you updated.

    Sincerely,

     Paul Sig

    Atentamente,

    Paul Sig

    Dr. Paul Stanton
    Superintendente

We compiled an online library of educational resources to support ongoing learning and enrichment. These activities are recommended, not required, but they can help keep children engaged in learning during school closures.
