Greetings WESD Parents and Guardians,

This is Dr. Paul Stanton again. I am honored to serve as the Superintendent of the Washington Elementary School District (WESD). It is my pleasure to bring you this installment of our WESD e-news to share some outstanding achievements from our incredible staff and students. Their ongoing commitment to success is critical, and I am so honored to highlight the amazing work they do. In this update, I will also provide you with information on a couple of important WESD events and our upcoming override and bond elections.

WESD Celebrates Growth and Improved Letter Grades

With the Arizona Department of Education recently releasing the 2021-2022 A-F school letter grades for all public schools statewide, I am so very proud of our staff and their hard work they dedicate daily to our WESD students. Overall, 13 WESD schools raised their letter grades at least one grade level. Of note, Orangewood School increased their letter grade to a “B” from a “D” in 2018-2019. Chaparral Elementary School also increased their letter grade to an “A” from a “C” in 2018-2019. Additionally, congratulations to our nine schools that were classified as an “A” including Abraham Lincoln Traditional School, Acacia Elementary School, Chaparral Elementary School, Ironwood Elementary School, Lookout Mountain Elementary, Moon Mountain Elementary, Ocotillo Elementary School, Sunburst Elementary and Tumbleweed Elementary.

Thank you to our hardworking, dedicated WESD staff, who continue to believe in our children, prioritize growth and focus on meeting their social/emotional, academic and behavioral needs. I am excited to continue growing together.

Congratulations, October 2022 SUPER Kids and Staff!

It was an honor to celebrate the October 2022 SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff awardees from Cholla Middle School, Lakeview Elementary School, Sahuaro Elementary School and Shaw Butte Elementary. On a monthly basis, the WESD SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff programs honor selected students and staff from WESD schools for their accomplishments and contributions. Each recipient receives a surprise award in front of their peers. SUPER Kids receive a certificate and a free pizza from Peter Piper Pizza, while SUPER Staff earn a certificate and Starbucks gift card. Second Group of Students Recognized for Perfect Assessment Scores

The WESD Governing Board recently recognized another group of students who received perfect scores on either the English Language Arts or Math portions of the 2021-2022 Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment! Congratulations to these students from Alta Vista Elementary School, John Jacobs Elementary School, Lookout Mountain Elementary School, Moon Mountain Elementary School, Mountain Sky Jr. High School, Shaw Butte Elementary School and the Distance Learning Program 5-8.

WESD Bond and Override

The WESD Governing Board called for a special Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Budget Override Election and a special Bond Election. Currently, the WESD provides full-day kindergarten, Music, Art and PE opportunities, and Gifted and Intervention Programs for all students with M&O Override funds. M&O Override funds also help the District maintain competitive salaries for instructional staff.

The WESD uses bond funds to fulfill important needs such as HVAC upgrades, replacement of buses, safety upgrades and student technology.

Save the Date for English Learner Family Engagement Night

Save the date, WESD Family! We are hosting our first English Learner Family Engagement Night of the school year on Thursday, November 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mountain View School. The event will include a celebration of EL spotlight students, a math game for students to learn about place value, and information on Rosetta Stone and other online resources. WESD Translations Services will be available for families who speak Spanish, Arabic and Vietnamese. Headsets will also be available for parents to check out and listen to the presentation in these three languages. WESD to Host Teacher Interview Fair

The WESD is hiring teachers for current vacancies and offering contracts for the 2023-2024 school year! Join us for our Teacher Interview Fair on Monday, November 14th, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the WESD Administrative Center, located at 4650 W. Sweetwater Ave., Glendale, AZ 85306. In-person and virtual interviews will be available. Walk-ins are also welcome until 4:30 p.m. Interviews are open to currently certified teachers, student teachers, soon-to-be graduates and those with a bachelor’s degree in any area interested in becoming teachers.

Es un placer traerles este nuevo capítulo de nuestro e-news del WESD para compartir algunos logros espectaculares de nuestro personal increíble. Su compromiso continuo a ser exitosos es esencial y es mi honor resaltar el trabajo grandioso que ellos hacen. WESD Celebra Crecimiento y Calificaciones Mejoradas

Con el Departamento de Educación de Arizona recientemente anunciando las calificaciones para las escuelas del 2021-2022 de letras A - F para todas las escuelas públicas en el estado, estoy muy orgulloso de nuestro personal y su duro trabajo que dedican diariamente a nuestros estudiantes del WESD. En general, 13 escuelas del WESD aumentaron sus calificaciones de letras por lo menos un grado en el nivel. De notar, la Escuela Orangewood aumentó su calificación de letra a una “B” de una “D” en el 2018-2019. La Escuela Chaparral aumentó su calificación de letra a una “A” de una “C” en el 2018-2019. Además, felicitaciones a nuestras nueve escuelas que fueron clasificadas como una “A” incluyendo las escuelas Abraham Lincoln Traditional, Acacia, Chaparral, Ironwood, Lookout Mountain, Moon Mountain, Ocotillo, Sunburst y Tumbleweed.

Gracias a nuestro personal del WESD trabajador y dedicado, que continúa creyendo en nuestros niños, dando prioridad al crecimiento y enfocándose en cumplir con sus necesidades sociales/emocionales, académicas y de comportamiento. Estoy emocionado de continuar creciendo unidos.

¡Felicitaciones a los ‘SUPER Kids’ y ‘SUPER Staff’ de octubre 2022!

Fue un honor celebrar a los reconocidos de ‘SUPER Kids’ y ‘SUPER Staff’ de octubre del 2022 de las escuelas Cholla, Lakeview, Sahuaro y Shaw Butte. Mensualmente, los programas del WESD ‘SUPER Kids’ y ‘SUPER Staff’ honran a estudiantes y personal elegido de las escuelas del WESD por sus logros y contribuciones. Segundo Grupo de Estudiantes Reconocidos por Puntajes Evaluativos Perfectos

¡El Consejo Administrativo del WESD recientemente dio reconocimiento a otro grupo de estudiantes que recibieron puntajes perfectos en ya sea las porciones de Escritura y Lectura o Matemáticas en la Evaluación de los Estándares Académicos de Arizona del 2021-2022! Felicitaciones a aquellos estudiantes de las escuelas Alta Vista, John Jacobs, Lookout Mountain, Moon Mountain, Mountain Sky Jr., Shaw Butte y el Programa de Aprendizaje a Distancia de 5-8.

Bono y Sobrepaso del WESD

El Consejo Administrativo del WESD convocó una Elección especial de Sobrepaso del Presupuesto de Mantenimiento y Operaciones (M&O) y una Elección especial de Bono. Actualmente, el WESD provee kindergarten de día completo, oportunidades de Música, Arte y Educación Física, y Programas para Estudiantes Dotados y de Intervención para todos los estudiantes con los fondos del Sobrepaso M&O. Los fondos del Sobrepaso M&O también ayudan al Distrito a mantener salarios competitivos para personal de instrucción.

El WESD usa fondos de bono para cumplir con necesidades importantes como actualización de HVAC, reemplazo de autobuses, actualizaciones de seguridad y tecnología estudiantil.

Aparten la Fecha para la Noche de Participación Familiar de los Aprendices de Inglés

¡Aparten la fecha, Familia del WESD! Estamos patrocinando nuestra primera Noche de Participación Familiar para Aprendices de Inglés del año escolar el jueves, 17 de noviembre, de 5:00 a 7:00 p.m. en la Escuela Mountain View. El evento incluirá una celebración de estudiantes EL destacados, un juego matemático para que los estudiantes aprendan acerca de valor posicional e información acerca de Rosetta Stone y otros recursos en línea. Servicios de Traducciones del WESD estarán disponibles para familias que hablan español, árabe y vietnamita. También tendremos audífonos disponibles para que los padres los utilicen y escuchen la presentación en esos idiomas. WESD Patrocinará una Feria de Entrevistas para Maestros

¡El WESD está contratando maestros para vacancias actuales y ofreciendo contratos para el año escolar 2023-2024! Únanse a nosotros para nuestra Feria de Entrevistas para Maestros el lunes, 14 de noviembre, de 2:30 a 5:30 p.m. en el Centro Administrativo del WESD, localizado en 4650 W. Sweetwater Ave., Glendale, AZ 85306. Entrevistas en persona y virtuales estarán disponibles. También se aceptan personas sin citas hasta las 4:30 p.m. Las entrevistas están abiertas para maestros actualmente certificados, estudiantes haciendo pasantías, que pronto se graduarán y aquellos con una licenciatura en cualquier área interesados en convertirse en maestros.
