Greetings WESD Parents and Guardians,

I am Dr. Paul Stanton, the proud Superintendent of the Washington Elementary School District (WESD). Today marks the last day of the first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year – and what an excellent first quarter it was! At a recent Governing Board Meeting, we recognized over 50 students who received perfect scores on our state assessment (and we have more to recognize after break, too). We recently recognized our SUPER Kids, students that demonstrate unique talents. We were able to surprise them at their schools and celebrate with their classmates. It was also an honor to recognize our teachers and staff members for their diligent work and dedication through our Years of Service Luncheon and Employees of the Month program. Additionally, the WESD is proud to be engaging with our community partners again! Just last weekend, I was thrilled to join WESD teachers, staff and students as we participated in the 28th Annual Kiwanis of North Phoenix Walk-a-thon to build school spirit and raise funds to support our schools district wide.

As you can see, there is much to celebrate as we wrap up this first quarter, however, there is also so much to look forward to as we continue to follow the WESD vision of being committed to achieving excellence for every child, every day, every opportunity. Thank you for being a part of our WESD Family and helping ensure a successful first quarter! I am looking forward to all that our students, teachers, staff and schools will achieve in the second quarter.

WESD to Hold Upcoming Override and Bond Elections on November 8th

In case you missed it, the WESD Governing Board called for a special Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Budget Override Election and a special Bond Election for November 8th, 2022.

Currently, the WESD provides full-day kindergarten, Music, Art and PE opportunities, and Gifted and Intervention Programs for all students with M&O Override funds. M&O Override funds also help the District maintain competitive salaries for instructional staff. The continuation of an M&O Override will allow the District to provide our enhanced programs and services, and attract and retain teachers and instructional staff, both essential components for the success of our WESD students.

In addition, the WESD uses bond funds to fulfill important capital projects. If this funding is continued, WESD will use it for safety projects, building system upgrades and replacements, site upgrades, classroom technology and student transportation.

Mark Your Calendars for these Important Dates and Reminders

1. Fall break is October 10th-14th. I wish our entire WESD Family a safe, fun and healthy fall break!

2. Parent/Teacher Conferences will occur Wednesday, October 19th, and the week of October 24th. It is essential for parents and guardians to attend these meetings to check in on your child’s academic growth and progress. Please contact your child’s school by clicking here for specific information about Parent/Teacher Conferences.

3. There will be early release October 25th-28th. Please make arrangements as necessary and contact your child’s school for more information by clicking here.

Although it is fall break next week, the WESD will continue to share exciting updates and news as we prepare to welcome students back for the second quarter. Please remember to follow the District on all its social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Saludos Padres y Guardianes del WESD,

Soy el Dr. Paul Stanton, el Superintendente orgulloso del Distrito Escolar Washington (WESD por sus siglas en inglés). Hoy marca el último día del primer trimestre del año escolar 2022-2023 – ¡y que tan excelente primer trimestre fue! En la Reunión reciente del Consejo Administrativo, dimos reconocimiento a más de 50 estudiantes quienes recibieron puntajes perfectos en nuestras evaluaciones estatales (y también tenemos más a quien dar reconocimiento después del receso). Recientemente dimos reconocimiento a nuestros “SUPER Kids”; estudiantes quienes han demostrado talentos únicos. Pudimos sorprenderlos en sus escuelas y celebrar con sus compañeros de clase. También fue un honor dar reconocimiento a nuestros maestros y miembros del personal por su trabajo diligente y dedicación por medio de nuestro Almuerzo de Años de Servicio y el programa de Empleados del Mes. ¡Además, el WESD está orgulloso de nuevamente estar involucrándose con nuestros socios comunitarios! Recientemente el fin de semana pasado, estuve emocionado de unirme a los maestros, personal y estudiantes del WESD al participar en el ‘28 Walk-a-thon Anual de Kiwanis del Norte de Phoenix’ para edificar animo escolar y recaudar fondos para apoyar a todas nuestras escuelas del distrito.

Como podrán ver, tenemos más que celebrar al terminar el primer trimestre, sin embargo, también existe tanto por el cual estar emocionados al continuar siguiendo la visión del WESD de estar comprometidos a alcanzar excelencia para cada niño, cada día, en cada oportunidad. ¡Gracias por ser parte de nuestra Familia del WESD y por ayudar a asegurar un primer trimestre exitoso! Espero con emoción por todo lo que nuestros estudiantes, maestros, personal y escuelas lograrán en el segundo trimestre.

WESD Llevará a cabo Elecciones Venideras de Sobrepaso y Bono el 8 de Noviembre

En caso de que se lo hayan perdido, el Consejo Administrativo del WESD convocó una Elección especial de Sobrepaso del Presupuesto de Mantenimiento y Operaciones (M&O) y una Elección especial de Bono para el 8 de noviembre, 2022.

Actualmente, el WESD provee kindergarten de día completo, oportunidades de Música, Arte y Educación Física, y Programas para Estudiantes Dotados y de Intervención para todos los estudiantes con fondos del Sobrepaso M&O. Los fondos del Sobrepaso M&O también ayudan al Distrito a mantener salarios competitivos para el personal de enseñanza. La continuación de un Sobrepaso M&O le permitirá al Distrito proveer nuestros programas y servicios mejorados, y atraer y retener maestros y personal de enseñanza, ambos componentes esenciales para el éxito de nuestros estudiantes del WESD.

Adicionalmente, el WESD usa fondos de bono para completar proyectos capitales importantes. Si se continúan estos fondos, el WESD los utilizará para proyectos de seguridad, actualizaciones y reemplazos de sistemas de edificios, actualizaciones de sitios, tecnología para el salón de clase y transportación de estudiantes.
