There are multiple
sources of information that contribute to measuring student learning. The WESD
uses a variety of assessments to help teachers and parents know if students are
learning. These sources include standards-based District assessments and teacher-designed
formative assessments in grades K-8; Arizona’s new State test, AzMERIT, in
English language arts and mathematics for grades 3-8; and Arizona's Instrument
to Measure Standards (AIMS) for Science in grades 4 and 8.
The WESD uses the results of the assessment tools to help students understand
their strengths and weaknesses, to help parents understand their child's
progress, to place students at appropriate instructional levels and to
determine program effectiveness.
