Alta Vista Elementary School is proud to be recognized as an Arizona Purple Star School.
This designation honors our commitment to supporting the unique needs of military-connected students and their families. Through specialized staff training, a designated military liaison, strong peer support systems, and easily accessible resources, we work to ensure a welcoming, stable, and supportive environment for all students—especially those experiencing transitions related to military service.-
At Alta Vista, we remain dedicated to fostering a community where every student feels seen, supported, and connected.

Peer-to-Peer Program
This year we are introducing a peer-to-peer program. When a military connected student enrolls they will be paired with one of our peer mentors to assist them as they join Alta Vista School. - Patriotic Events
- Each year we host events to honor our current and former military members and families.
- Veterans Day with Cortez High School
- Each year we invite current and former military members in to celebrate Veterans Day. We had an assembly where we had Cortez High School JROTC proudly present their colors with Captain Scott McMahon. This year's assembly was on Friday, November 7, 2025.

- Month of the Military Children
- April is the month of the military child. We will encourage all staff and students to wear purple on Fridays throughout the month to celebrate and recognize these students.
