WESD Welcomes New Principals

The WESD welcomes new administrators to the District for the start of the 2018-2019 school year:


Mrs. Kara McDivitt - Chaparral Elementary School Principal - Ms. McDivitt began her career with Washington Elementary School District in 2016 as the Assistant Principal of Washington Elementary School. She was a former Literacy Achievement Advisor, Literacy Coach, Reading Specialist and has taught at multiple elementary grade levels. Ms. McDivitt is most excited about building relationships with students, staff and the community.  She looks forward to working alongside teachers to ensure all Chaparral students receive a quality and rewarding educational experience.


Shalini McCarthy - Mountain View School Assistant Principal - Ms. McCarthy has a background in English Language Learners, including coaching teachers. She has also been an Induction/Retention, PD Specialist, an ELL teacher and a fifth grade teacher in the East Valley. Ms. McCarthy is excited to be a part of a community that values strong relationships and continued professional growth. She is “honored to be a part of such a vibrant and encouraging atmosphere that prioritizes our students above all else.”


 James Richardson - Palo Verde Middle School Assistant Principal - Mr. Richardson most recently served as the Student Service Specialist at Mountain View School, a 21st Century Site Coordinator and serves on the WESD Family and Community Engagement committee. Before joining the WESD Family, Mr. Richardson taught math, was a special education teacher and service coordinator and served on the Autism Spectrum Disorder Team. Additionally, Mr. Richardson has experience implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.


Ms. Mandi Jones - Sunset Elementary Principal - Mandi began her career with Washington Elementary School District in 2006 as a teacher. She has taught multiple elementary grade levels. Most recently, she served as the Program Coach at Sunset where she has facilitated data meetings and implemented professional development based on the needs of grade level teachers. She has been an After=school site coordinator and a grade level facilitator. She is a proud foster parent and varsity volleyball coach for boys and girls.


Mrs. Jennifer Griggs – Washington Elementary Interim Principal - Jennifer began her career in the Washington Elementary School District in 2001. She has taught extensively in multiple grade levels and campuses within the Washington School District. Most recently, she served as the program coach at Chaparral and the WESD K-8 Athletic Director. Also, Jennifer is a District CPI trainer. She is a 2016 Lamp of Learning recipient.


Michelle Hall - Washington Elementary Assistant Principal - Ms. Hall holds a master’s of Education, Educational Leadership degree and has experience as a Title I school improvement specialist. She has also been a third grade and kindergarten teacher. Ms. Hall is proud and honored to be part of the WESD. As the 2018-2019 school year begins, it is her goal to know each child by need and strength so she can ensure that she is supporting every child in both social and academic growth.
