Academic Support Programs

21st Century Community Learning Centers  - WESD After-School Academy

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant has served more than 4,000 students annually over the past 20+ years. This project affords WESD students and their families the opportunity to participate in no-cost activities and programs that extend their learning beyond the school day hours.

The grant's primary objective is to provide academic interventions in the areas of reading and math to targeted students in need of intervention. Additionally, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers at 22 of our school sites offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, science, art, music, and recreation programs, technology education programs, youth development, and character education programs that are designed to reinforce skills.
