he Washington Elementary School District Truancy Prevention Unit has partnered with many local businesses to create an incentive-based truancy campaign aimed at improving school attendance.
Each year, six (6) schools will be chosen to compete for the traveling trophy that will be on display at the school that shows the most improvement in attendance from the previous year. Students who reach their perfect attendance goals will be eligible to receive prizes, as well as have their name placed in a drawing for a grand prize.
Since the implementation of this incentive program, schools involved have seen an average overall reduction of absences of 20 percent.
The inaugural winner (2013-2014) of the BE COOL, COME TO SCHOOL trophy was Richard E. Miller Elementary School, and the runner-up was Tumbleweed Elementary School.
