Library Guidelines

  • Circulation Guidelines

    • Kindergarten and First Grade students have access to the Easy Picture Book and Easy Non-Fiction sections of the library, and check out one book at a time as they learn how to take care of their books and return them in a timely fashion.  Checkout period is for one six-day cycle.

    • Second through sixth grade students check out two books at a time, although extra books are allowed for classroom projects and for students to meet their John Jacobs Rockin' Readers & Runners program goals. Checkout period is for one six-day cycle, however books can be renewed as long as they are not on "Hold" for another student.

    • Staff members have unlimited circulation access to the items in the student and teacher resource collections.

Behavior and Environment in the Library

The John Jacobs Elementary School Library is a vibrant learning environment. Our students are expected to demonstrate the school rules while using the library resources. They are respectful, responsible and do their personal best whether using the library with their class, a small group or individually. They show a deep commitment to caring for the books, equipment and other resources in the library. When using the library independently, they are expected to bring a pass from their classroom teacher and to use the resources purposefully while showing respect for the other activities taking place in the library.
